"I chose the latter and felt inspired to help other women be able to reinvent themselves."

It’s been over two years since the launch of Grow Well Bookkeeping, but that is definitely not something I had planned on years ago. I actually graduated with a Master in Education from the University of Minnesota and had planned to be an elementary school teacher.

Soon after having my first baby, however, I knew I wanted to be home with my kids, so I ended up leaving the workforce to be a stay at home mom while my 5 children were growing up. When my youngest started school, I had a decision to make, go back to teaching or reinvent myself.

I chose the latter and felt inspired to help other women be able to reinvent themselves.

I quickly found myself gravitating towards working with other women, specifically women coaches, because I have a deep appreciation and love for the work they do in the world.  Coaching has had a profound impact on my own life and I felt drawn to support them. I also felt a sort of kinship with many of them who had also chosen to start a business after having kids, and wanted something better for themselves and their families. Having experiences many of their same challenges as a women in business, I have become passionate about learning, sharing and supporting women in reliable pathways to success.

I love helping women find power around their numbers and giving them the tools to feel confident, organized and capable in the financial aspects of their business.  I find my teaching background helps me teach topics women often feel intimidated by, such as bookkeeping, profits, and money in general, in easy to understand and empowering ways.

I truly believe one of our greatest powers as women entrepreneurs is the ability to support and lift one another to success.   I look forward to being part of your success building team.

Business Meal Guides

Can I deduct my coffee?  What about my lunch?  And is it fully deductible?  Food expenses can be an easy way to boost your tax deductible expenses, but there is often a lot of confusion around what counts, what doesn’t, and how much is actually deductible.  So much so that entrepreneurs may just avoid tracking food expenses all together.

That is why I created this helpful guide that clearly spells out what does and does not qualify as a business expense.  Just remember to keep the receipt of any business meals you plan to use as deductible expense.  Make a note on the receipt what the qualifying purpose of the meal is ( ex: networking meal) and who attended (ex: myself & Sarah).  Simple as that to make your meal deduction audit proof.

Home Office Expense Tracker

Home Office Expenses aren’t typically tracked in business software or spreadsheets because they are a mix of business and personal use, rather than 100% business.  Your home internet or phone, for example, might be used 50% for business and 50% for family, so it’s better to have that expense run through personal rather than business accounts.  However, that 50% portion that is used for business is most definitely a business deduction and should be included in business expense totals on tax forms.  Being in personal accounts means they can easily fall through the cracks if a business owner isn’t aware they qualify as deductions, even if you outsource your business bookkeeping or tax filing.

This helpful spreadsheet is the perfect way to track these types of mixed personal/business expenses.

To use, simply record the monthly or one time expense total amounts, then enter the portion (%) that is used for business at the top.  The spreadsheet will automatically calculate $ amount that is deductible as a business expense!  How easy is that?!
